Jane Skinner - International Women's Day

For International Women's day, we wanted to shine a light on some of the amazing women who work for Johnsons Workwear and find out a little more about them.

Meet Jane Skinner, who is the General Manager at our Brighton plant and has worked at Johnsons for 29 years:

Talk us through an average day in your life:

My days are productive and fun, working with team members who have a strong sense of camaraderie and a great work ethic. As a General Manager, my role is to ensure the smooth running of my plant, working with some great people along the way and keeping our customers happy.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

I actually wanted to be a fashion designer!

What is it like being a woman in your job/department?

Apart from being the only female in the village, the same as any man!

What do you think are some of the biggest challenges facing young girls and women today?

I would say the negative impacts of social media and the rise of people who struggle with poor mental health and haven't got the support around them.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Knowing the meaning of: “He who shouts the loudest”.…

What changes would you like to see in the future for women?

An end to gender inequality and the gender pay gap.

Who is your biggest female inspiration in life?

Definitely my mum and my nan. They were both strong, independent and caring ladies who were role models for me.

What makes you proud to be a woman?

I love that as a woman I have the ability to adapt, to take on challenges and be ever evolving.
